Previously, Underwood had paid homage to Keith at the BMI Icon Award ceremony in 2022, where she performed his debut single. Recalling their friendship, she shared photos from the event, expressing her sadness at his passing. Through her emotional post on social media, Underwood encapsulated the essence of their connection, believing Keith now resides in heaven.

In her moving message, she wrote, “Saddle up the horses, Jesus, ’cause a true blue COWBOY just made his ride up to heaven!!!” Underwood expressed her conviction that Keith is now in a better place and expressed hope for a reunion in the afterlife.
