Gena Rowlands, the renowned actress best known for her role as the older Allie in “The Notebook,” passed away at 94 at her home in Indian Wells, California. Her son, filmmaker Nick Cassavetes, confirmed the news.
While the official cause of death has not been disclosed, Rowlands had been living with Alzheimer’s for the past five years. Cassavetes reflected on the experience, stating, “It’s so surreal… she acted it, and now it’s something we’ve lived through.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Rowlands earned four Emmy Awards and received two Academy Award nominations for her roles in “A Woman Under the Influence” and “Gloria.” She also won two Golden Globe Awards, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses.
