My In-Laws Took Advantage, But My Mom Turned the Tables
Lexie’s in-laws, Jessica and Roger, lost their home after Roger’s job loss. With nowhere to go, they asked Lexie’s mother, Tanya, who lived alone in a large house, to let them move in. Tanya, despite being wheelchair-bound and needing a live-in nurse, kindly agreed, telling them, “You can stay for as long as you need to.”
At first, the arrangement seemed fine. Jessica and Roger helped with cooking and maintenance. However, they soon began complaining about their living conditions, criticizing the limited space and simple food. Instead of appreciating Tanya’s generosity, they started pushing for her to move into a nursing home.
When Tanya overheard them discussing this, she took matters into her own hands. She informed social services that her in-laws needed assistance, which led to them being moved to a small apartment. Jessica was shocked, exclaiming, “How dare she trick us like this!”
Lexie and her husband later visited the in-laws, who admitted their mistakes. “We were in the wrong,” Jessica confessed, realizing they had taken advantage of Tanya’s kindness.
