The nine-time Oscar winner died today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Beverly Hills

Renowned Disney songwriter Richard M. Sherman, known for his work on Mary Poppins and It’s a Small World, has died at 95. He passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills from age-related illness.

Richard, along with his brother Robert B. Sherman, created iconic songs like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” and “Feed the Birds” for Mary Poppins, and “It’s a Small World (After All)” and “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They earned nine Oscars, 23 gold and platinum albums, and two Grammys.

The Sherman brothers wrote over 150 songs for Disney and worked on films such as Winnie the Pooh and Charlotte’s Web. In 2008, they received the National Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush. Richard is survived by his wife Elizabeth, their children Gregory and Victoria, and his daughter Lynda. Robert Sherman died in 2012. A private funeral will be held, with a public service to be announced later.
