Couple Moves into an Old House, Realizes They Are Not Alone
Margo and Robert moved into Margo’s late grandmother’s old house due to financial difficulties. Initially, they were apprehensive about the spooky house, but they decided to make the best of it. Margo’s grandmother had been considered the town oddball, making the move even more unsettling. As they settled in, they were surprised to find the house well-maintained, despite its neglected appearance outside.
Robert tried to stay positive, saying, “It’s not as bad as we thought.” However, Margo felt uneasy, especially after hearing footsteps and finding food missing from the fridge. One night, Margo heard noises again and, with a flashlight, explored the house. She discovered two small mattresses in the locked basement, confirming her suspicions that someone else was living there.
Upon confronting the intruders, Margo found two children, Mark and Olive, who had been hiding in the basement after being kicked out by their parents. Mark explained, “Our parents kicked us out. We had nowhere to go. We came to this house thinking no one lived here.”
Despite their initial shock, Margo and Robert decided to help the children. Margo said, “I’ll make a bed for you in a room upstairs.” However, their financial situation made it difficult to consider keeping the children long-term. Robert suggested involving the authorities, but Margo was determined to find another way.
Margo focused on her art, hoping to sell a painting to support the children. When she sold a piece called “Survival” for a significant amount, she and Robert decided to become the children’s guardians. They prepared rooms for Mark and Olive, filling them with toys and books.
Margo and Robert brought Mark and Olive home, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment. Their family was finally coming together, and the house no longer felt empty or haunted.
