Strategist who made prediction on when Trump’s administration will ‘collapse’ makes new claim on his ‘big, beautiful bill’

Democratic strategist James Carville, known for his outspoken political views, has made new claims about the impact of Donald Trump’s recently passed tax bill.

Carville previously predicted the Trump administration would soon collapse due to declining approval ratings and internal chaos, worsened by executive orders and mass firings influenced by Elon Musk.

He now believes Democrats could gain up to 40 seats in the 2026 midterm elections, citing widespread backlash to Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which delivers large tax cuts for the wealthy while slashing Medicaid and food stamp funding.

While Trump praised the bill, critics—including Musk—argue it will deepen the national debt and harm vulnerable Americans. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill could add $3.3 trillion to the deficit.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned the bill could strip healthcare from nearly 14 million Americans. Opponents have renamed the legislation the “big, bad bill” and labeled it a betrayal of public trust.

Carville called the bill a unifying issue for Democrats, saying it could cause a “mass extinction event” for Republican members of Congress, particularly those who supported it.

Democratic strategist Paul Begala added that punishing voters who depend on Medicaid is a political mistake. Recent polling shows Democrats with a narrow lead over Republicans, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized that Republicans in swing districts who supported the bill should face consequences in the next election.
