Shocking poll shows contenders for 2028 presidential race as new Trump approval ratings reveal what the US really thinks of him

Donald Trump’s approval ratings have dropped, with 45% of Americans supporting him and 46% disapproving, according to Emerson College Polling. This marks a decline from 49% approval in January, likely due to growing public concern over his recent decisions and military actions.

Heightened conflict with Iran has contributed to the shift in opinion. Following Trump’s missile strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Iran’s retaliatory attacks, 52% of Americans now believe the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction.

Still, Trump maintains considerable support, with 48% approving of his overall leadership. As attention begins turning to the 2028 election, Democrats are already exploring potential candidates to challenge the GOP.

Pete Buttigieg has taken an early lead among Democratic hopefuls, surpassing Kamala Harris in recent polls. Buttigieg, the former Transportation Secretary, holds 16% support compared to Harris’s 13%, despite her previous presidential campaign in 2024.

Buttigieg’s historic status as the first openly gay Cabinet member continues to resonate with voters. However, about 25% of Democrats remain undecided, suggesting that the race is still very much open.

On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance has emerged as the clear frontrunner with 46% support. He is well ahead of other contenders like Marco Rubio at 12% and Ron DeSantis at 9%, though 17% of Republicans remain unsure.

As Trump is unable to run again, both parties are gearing up for a competitive 2028 race. Buttigieg’s rise and Vance’s dominance point to a dynamic and potentially transformative election ahead.
