Man Who Miraculously Survived Air India
The only survivor of the Air India flight AI171 crash, British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, has spoken out about the tragic event. The plane, which was headed to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport on June 12, killing 265 people. Ramesh, seated near the emergency exit in seat 11A, recalled a loud noise 30 seconds after takeoff before the aircraft crashed. He described waking up surrounded by bodies and wreckage, before running from the site and being taken to the hospital. His brother, Ajay, was also on the flight but seated elsewhere. Senior police officer Vidhi Chaudhary confirmed Ramesh managed to escape through the emergency exit.
Authorities revealed that the two pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, issued a mayday call stating they were losing power and unable to lift, which was their last communication. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Air India Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, offering condolences to the victims’ families and affirming the airline’s commitment to supporting those affected and aiding emergency teams. The police continue recovery efforts, having retrieved 265 bodies so far from the crash site in a residential area.
