Kate Middleton shares how chemotherapy affected her body in sad update as doctors warn of serious side effects
On 2 July, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, visited Colchester Hospital’s wellbeing garden, where she planted ‘Catherine’s Rose’ in support of cancer recovery. During her visit, she shared personal reflections on life after treatment.
Kate first disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, beginning preventative chemotherapy shortly after. Nine months later, she completed treatment and gradually returned to royal duties. In January 2025, during a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, she confirmed her cancer was in remission.
On Instagram, Kate described being in remission as a “relief” but emphasized she remains focused on healing and recovery. She has remained open with the public throughout her journey, including the emotional and physical challenges.
During her latest appearance, she spoke about the difficult adjustment after treatment ends. Kate shared that, despite appearing strong during treatment, the post-treatment phase is especially challenging and often misunderstood.
She explained that there’s a common expectation for recovery to be immediate once treatment finishes, but that’s far from reality. It takes time to feel well again and return to normal life, both physically and emotionally.
Reflecting on her experience, Kate recalled that chemotherapy brought “good days and bad days.” She spoke about feeling tired and weak on difficult days but making the most of better days when she had more energy.
Kate emphasized the importance of patience and self-care during recovery. She’s learned to listen to her body, embrace each day, and allow herself the time needed to heal fully from chemotherapy’s effects.
