Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Seen Together Attending a Funeral – Video
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made a rare joint appearance at the funeral of Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were killed in a politically motivated attack. The service was held at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis.
During the Catholic Mass, Biden and Harris sat together and were seen holding hands during prayer. Over 1,000 people, including political leaders and the public, attended the service to pay tribute to the couple.
The funeral followed a public memorial at the Minnesota Capitol, where the couple and their dog, Gilbert, were honored. Melissa became the first woman in state history to lie in the Capitol Rotunda.
President Biden later visited the Capitol to meet privately with the couple’s children. Governor Tim Walz, who served as a pallbearer, praised the Hortmans’ public service and called Melissa the most impactful House Speaker in Minnesota’s history.
Authorities say 57-year-old Vance Boelter posed as a police officer before fatally shooting the couple in their home. He also injured Senator John Hoffman and his wife earlier the same day. Officials confirmed the attack was politically driven.
Father Dan Griffith described the couple’s kindness and hospitality, noting their home was fondly called the “Hortman Hotel.” Their son, Colin, closed the service by reading a prayer found in Melissa’s wallet.
Online reactions were mixed, with some questioning Biden’s health and others commending the leaders’ compassion. Boelter faces multiple federal charges, and prosecutors are considering seeking the death penalty.
