Important reason why you should blur your house on Google Maps

Blurring your home on Google Maps is a growing trend among privacy-conscious individuals, not just celebrities. While Google automatically blurs faces and license plates, users can request their entire home be hidden from Street View.

Many public figures have already used this option, but the feature is available to anyone. One Redditor said they chose to blur their home after experiencing multiple break-ins.

To blur your home, simply enter your address on Google Maps, go to Street View, and click “Report a problem.” From there, select “Request blurring,” choose “My home,” and adjust the box to cover your property. Enter your email to submit the request.

Google explains it uses advanced technology to blur faces and plates and offers additional blurring on request. You can ask for your home, car, or even your entire body to be hidden.

Privacy experts offer mixed opinions. Officer Ryan Railsback from California believes blurring your home can deter criminals from planning thefts. If security systems or expensive items are visible, it could make a home a target.

However, Professor Christopher Herrmann warns it may backfire. If your house is the only one blurred, it might raise suspicion and attract attention instead of preventing it.

Many internet users have recently discovered this option and shared their experiences. One user noted they blurred their home after criminal activity nearby, while another stressed it’s better to stay private in a world where people look for “5 finger discounts.”
