Grim theory behind why Donald Trump’s ex Ivana is buried at his golf club

Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana is buried in an unusual location — a golf course — and it has sparked widespread speculation and conspiracy theories. Many are puzzled by Trump’s decision to bury her at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club instead of a more traditional or grand resting place.

Ivana and Donald were married from 1977 to 1990 and had three children: Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She died in 2022 after a fall in her New York home at age 73. Despite her lavish gold casket and funeral in Manhattan, her burial site appears surprisingly neglected.

Photos from 2023 show Ivana’s grave in poor condition, prompting online theories that Trump had her buried there for financial benefits. Trump had previously applied to designate part of the golf course as a cemetery, eventually getting approval for up to ten burial plots.

New Jersey law exempts cemetery land from numerous taxes — including property, income, sales, and inheritance taxes — making it potentially advantageous for Trump. This led some, like Dartmouth professor Brooke Harrington, to argue that tax avoidance could be a motive behind the decision.

Ivana is believed to be the first person buried at the course. Critics described the grave as a “pauper’s grave,” despite the high-profile status of both Ivana and Trump.

Fact-checkers confirmed the grave’s neglected state, lending weight to concerns about the burial’s purpose. Social media users have since circulated the images and theories widely.

While tax savings could exist, Newsweek notes they may be minimal, as Trump already pays low taxes on the land.
