Elon Musk doubles down on Trump criticism regarding ‘utterly insane’ bill that’s ‘political suicide’

Elon Musk has renewed his criticism of Donald Trump’s controversial “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it “utterly insane and destructive.” Once a vocal supporter of Trump’s campaign, Musk now strongly opposes the legislation.

Musk played a significant role in Trump’s administration, even claiming Trump wouldn’t have defeated Kamala Harris without his help. He led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aimed at reducing government waste.

After recently stepping down from his role, Musk denounced the bill as an “abomination,” accusing it of undoing the cost-cutting efforts he championed at DOGE. Trump countered by saying Musk was aware of the bill’s contents before leaving and expressed disappointment in the tech billionaire.

Tensions escalated when Musk tweeted, then deleted, allegations about Trump’s name appearing in the Jeffrey Epstein files. The White House labeled the move as “unfortunate,” and Musk later admitted some tweets went too far.

On June 28, his birthday, Musk took to Twitter to criticize the bill again, warning that it would “destroy millions of jobs” and harm the country’s future by supporting outdated industries.

In another post, Musk stated the bill could be “political suicide” for Republicans. Meanwhile, the Senate voted 51-49 to begin debate on the bill, a move Trump celebrated as a “great victory.”

Despite the public fallout, Trump downplayed tensions, saying he’s focused on improving the country and has no hard feelings. Still, given the ongoing criticism, the once-close alliance between the two appears to be beyond repair.
