Dutch Queen accused of mocking Donald Trump on live TV finally speaks out on the incident
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has responded to a viral video suggesting she mocked former U.S. President Donald Trump during his recent visit to The Hague for the NATO summit.
During a press briefing with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump made a crude remark about Israel and Iran, likening them to “two kids in a schoolyard” and using profanity. Rutte responded jokingly, saying, “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get it stopped,” which led to the nickname “Daddy” trending online for Trump.
However, the moment that drew even more attention came when Trump visited Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander at Huis ten Bosch Palace. In footage of their photo session, Queen Máxima appeared to mimic Trump’s way of saying “thank you,” sparking a flurry of reactions online.
One user questioned, “Was Queen Máxima mimicking Donald Trump?” while another commented on her imitating his mouth movements. The clip quickly went viral, fueling speculation.
Queen Máxima later addressed the incident in an interview with Dutch outlet AD, denying that she was mocking Trump. She explained that she had simply said “thank you” to someone who assisted her, and described her meeting with Trump as “a pleasant experience.”
Princess Amalia, 21, also spoke positively about the visit, calling it “really cool” to meet the former president. She is the eldest of the Queen’s three daughters, alongside Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane.
Another notable moment was Trump’s arrival at the palace, where body language expert Darren Stanton observed his dominant posture, interpreting it as a display of authority.
