Donald Trump Has Brutal Message For Actors
During a recent visit to the Kennedy Center on 11 June, President Donald Trump dismissed the cast of Les Misérables boycotting his appearance, saying he “couldn’t care less” and is focused on running the country well. Despite earlier reports suggesting that Trump, First Lady Melania, and Vice President J.D. Vance were attending a performance by understudy actors, a Kennedy Center spokesperson denied this, calling it “fake news.” Protesters, including drag queens, were seen nearby, and Trump received mixed reactions from the audience with both cheers and boos.
Less than three weeks into his second term, Trump announced plans to fire the Kennedy Center board and appointed himself chairman. He also named Richard Grenell, his former Director of National Intelligence, as interim executive director, later praising Grenell’s work. These decisions sparked backlash, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, as several Pride-related events, including the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington D.C. and the LGBTQ-themed musical Finn, were canceled. Drag performers protested the move at the venue. Speaking on the red carpet, Trump expressed excitement about revitalizing the center, joking, “It’s the last time I’ll take a job without looking at it.”
