Drawing of Elvis Presley goes viral for tremendous reason
Children have been known to create unusual and quirky drawings, often of things they see around them — and music icon Jimi Hendrix was no exception during his youth.
When Hendrix was about 14, he sketched a portrait of Elvis Presley after watching him perform live. That drawing recently resurfaced and has gone viral for an unexpected reason.
The sketch shows Elvis wearing brown shoes, white socks, blue pants, and a burgundy-red jacket, surrounded by quotes and lyrics in blue and red ink. But it’s the hair that’s grabbing everyone’s attention.
Rather than depicting Elvis’s iconic jet-black hairstyle, Hendrix illustrated him with a sandy blonde-brown quiff — which is believed to be Elvis’s natural hair color before he began dyeing it.
The drawing sparked amusement online, with many comparing the image to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Commenters were quick to point out the resemblance to Trump’s famously unusual hairstyle.
Social media users made jokes and remarks, with some convinced Hendrix had drawn Trump. Comments included: “Holy sh*t. He drew Trump!” and “Donald Presley!”
According to Snopes, Elvis did perform in Hendrix’s hometown of Seattle on September 1, 1957, when Hendrix was 14. Though he couldn’t afford the ticket price, Hendrix reportedly found a spot on a hill nearby to hear the concert and sketch the performer from afar.
