Elon Musk responds to Donald Trump’s deportation threat with menacing tweet
Tensions between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump are escalating, with Trump now hinting at the possibility of deporting the South African-born billionaire.
Their feud began in early June with a heated exchange on social media, marking the collapse of their once-friendly relationship. Since then, Musk has threatened to fund anti-Republican campaigns and even create his own political party, a move that could have significant political implications.
Trump has responded by targeting policies that benefit Musk’s companies, especially electric vehicle subsidies. He’s also warned about severing government ties with Musk, which could affect agencies like NASA that rely on SpaceX.
The most recent threat came when Trump was asked if he’d consider deporting Musk. Trump answered vaguely, saying, “We’ll have to take a look,” leaving the door open to action despite the legal difficulties such a move would entail.
Trump also made a cryptic remark about using “DOGE” on Musk, likely referencing budget cuts to Tesla and SpaceX’s government subsidies. This could be another tactic to pressure Musk financially.
Musk responded on X, teasing retaliation but choosing not to escalate—for now. His followers urged him to stay calm, citing concerns over Tesla stock performance.
Although Musk became a U.S. citizen in 2002 and is generally safe from deportation, Trump could attempt to investigate his naturalization process for fraud. While there’s no evidence Musk lied, such a challenge would be complex and controversial—but Trump’s administration appears willing to explore it.
