Two Democratic lawmakers and spouses

Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband have tragically died after being shot in their home, according to CBS News. Champlin Mayor Ryan Sabas confirmed that both Hortman and state senator John Hoffman, along with their spouses, were victims of a shooting. Hoffman and his wife survived and are recovering after surgery. The suspect, believed to be impersonating a police officer, is still at large. Authorities have yet to determine a motive but are investigating the incident as potentially politically motivated.

Governor Tim Walz called the shootings a tragic attack on public servants, praising Hortman as a dedicated leader and a “fixture in Minnesota.” A shelter-in-place order has been issued for areas near Edinburgh Golf Course, and legislators are urged to take extra precautions. The suspect is described as a white man with brown hair, wearing a tactical vest. Police are advising residents to verify officers by calling 911 if approached by a single individual claiming to be law enforcement.
