Plane seat that sole survivor of Air India
Following the tragic Air India plane crash on June 12, in which 241 of the 242 people onboard died, attention has turned to the sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was seated in 11A. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route to London. Ramesh described waking up surrounded by wreckage and bodies before being taken to the hospital. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, but his survival has sparked viral interest in seat 11A, especially after it was revealed that a Thai singer who survived a 1998 crash was also seated in 11A.
Social media users have since joked about 11A becoming the most sought-after seat, with some even predicting airlines would raise prices. A search for flights showed 11A often already booked on various routes, especially for flights departing from Manchester. Though it’s not confirmed if the crash has influenced this trend, it’s suggested that the seat’s location near emergency exits may be a factor. However, aviation safety experts note that survival chances depend on crash type, and the FAA reports seats toward the rear of a plane generally have lower fatality rates compared to those in the front or middle.
