Chilling simulation shows what would happen
A viral simulation has explored the catastrophic effects of losing all oxygen on Earth for just five seconds, showing that while humans could hold their breath, everything else would be chaos. Buildings made from concrete would crumble because oxygen is crucial in the binding process, and untreated metal would fuse together since oxidation would vanish. Without oxygen, the ozone layer would disappear, leaving us exposed to intense UV rays, causing instant sunburns. Air pressure would also drop, damaging our inner ears, and all planes would plummet from the sky.
Fires would go out immediately, only non-electric cars would function, and the Earth’s crust would collapse since it’s made up of 45 percent oxygen. The atmosphere would become ineffective at scattering sunlight, plunging the planet into darkness. Engineer Geoffrey Widdinson noted that while our bodies wouldn’t directly notice the loss of oxygen because we only detect carbon dioxide levels, the sudden stop of a hundred million cars would certainly grab attention. However, he reassured that such a scenario will never happen in reality.
