Newhart gained fame with The Bob Newhart Show and portrayed Papa Elf in Elf alongside Will Ferrell. He later won an Emmy for his role as Arthur Jeffries, or Professor Proton, in The Big Bang Theory. “Somehow there’s a connection between numbers and music and comedy,” Newhart once said.
