Little Johnny Asked A Lot Of Questions To His Teacher

Little Johnny’s Silent Letter Confusion

Little Johnny, a curious 7th grader, often asked his teacher many questions. One day, he asked his English teacher, “Why do we ignore some letters in pronunciation, like the letter H in hour and honour?” The teacher explained, “We are not ignoring them; they’re considered silent.” This left Johnny even more confused.

During lunch, Johnny’s teacher asked him to heat her packed lunch in the cafeteria. Instead, Johnny ate all the food and returned with an empty container. The teacher asked, “What happened? I told you to go and HEAT my food. You are returning me an empty container.” Johnny replied, “Madam, I thought ‘H’ was silent.”

This humorous incident highlights the challenges and quirks of learning English. Dedicated to all English teachers.
