Peter Reckell: From Soap Opera Star to Devoted Family Man
Peter Reckell, known for his role as Bo Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” didn’t achieve success overnight. Despite his talent, he faced challenges early in his career, even working at a deli while pursuing auditions. His big break came in 1980 with a role on “As the World Turns,” followed by his iconic portrayal of Bo Brady in “Days of Our Lives.”
Reckell’s dedication to his family eventually led him to step away from the show for good. His daughter’s pleas for him to stay home made him realize his priorities lay beyond acting. He values fatherhood above all else.
In his personal life, Reckell found love after divorcing his first wife, Dale Kristien, who was also his co-star on “Days of Our Lives.” In 1998, he married Kelly Moneymaker, a singer-songwriter known for her time in the girl group Exposé. Their daughter, Loden Sloan, brought immense joy to their lives.
The name “Loden Sloan” holds special significance, symbolizing environmentalism and strength. Reckell and Moneymaker, both passionate about environmental issues, are conscious of their family size for the sake of the planet. While they’ve considered adoption, they’ve chosen not to have more biological children.
Reckell and Moneymaker cherish their daughter’s milestones, including her early use of sign language. Despite Reckell’s fame, he prefers a private life, using social media to advocate for environmental causes. In July 2020, Reckell mourned the loss of his father, Russ, who instilled in him strong values despite humble beginnings.
Peter Reckell’s journey from soap opera stardom to devoted fatherhood highlights the importance of family and personal values in a demanding industry.
